Starting in 2022 the School of Graduate Studies requires all M.S. and Ph.D. graduate students to complete an Individual Development Plan (IDP) every academic year. In Microbial Biology the deadline for submitting the IDP is May 31 every year. The IDP should first be filled out by the graduate student, consulting with their research advisor and/or the graduate program director (Gerben Zylstra) as appropriate. The completed IDP must be electronically signed by both the research advisor and the graduate program director. Only the student, research advisor, and graduate program advisor have electronic access to the document. The SGS does not have access except for the special section for Ph.D. students who have been enrolled in the graduate program for more than 7 years.
IDPs should be completed online at the School of Graduate Studies IDP site. The electronic document can be edited and saved up until the "submit" button is pushed when the document then goes to the research advisor and the graduate program director for their review and comments. Please do not wait until the last minute to work on your IDP. The document can be edited and updated multiple times during the year and then submitted by the May deadline.
